Lompoc Valley Visitors Guide 28 L ocal radio sta- tion KTNK has been granted an FM license and is now broadcasting locally on FM 103.7 in addition to AM 1410. Known for its very popular format of honky tonk, western swing, classic country and bluegrass, station owner and manager Mike Day says that the expansion is the culmination of nearly 4 year’s work. “Ever since we started broadcasting on May 2, 2014 as KTNK, we have been working diligently to expand our reach here on the central California Coast,” says Mike who also hosts the morning show, “Where’s The Country?” from 7 to 11 am every Mon- day through Friday. Winner of the prestigious “Ra- dio Station of the Year” award in 2015 given by the Academy of Western Artists in Gene Autry, Okla- homa, KTNK also streams worldwide through their website, radioktnk.com . “We have an ever expanding international audi- ence due to our stream,” adds Mike, “and our local signal now reaches nearly 160,000 people here on the central California coast.” Also known for their tireless support of local busi- nesses and non-profits, KTNK offers broadcasting internships and a roster of syndicated programming not found on other radio stations in California. Week- end programming features shows produced all over the country like Cowboy Corner with Red Steagall, World of Western Swing with Dave Alexander, Hon- kytonks & Heartaches with host Tom Wardle, If That Ain’t Country with Western Red, and Chronicle of the Old West with historian and host Dakota Live- say. Public service programming including Lompoc and Cabrillo high school sports, Info Trak, Today’s Homeowner with Danny Lipford, and local church services round out the weekend schedule. “I’d like to think that we’re the ‘Biggest Little Radio Local Radio Station Expands, Enters 6Th Year Of Operation Station’ in California, adds Mike. KTNK is active in the community as well, sponsoring an annual ben- efit every December called Honky Tonk Christmas featuring country artists from the central California coast. This year the event featured Lompoc blue- grass band Too Little Too Late, rockabilly band Mitch King and Rock Cats Rock from Ventura, the KTNK Top Hands with legendary steel guitarist Jay Dee Maness, and featured artist Dylan Ortega from San- ta Ynez. The event raised over $5,000 towards the restoration of the historic Lompoc Theater.
